(Long Turn)
- 在陈述中用 “First / Next / Finally” 或 “On one hand / On the other hand” 等连接词来梳理思路
(That’s an interesting question... / Let me think for a moment...)。
或 “To sum up…”
(Discussion)
Part 2
Describe a skill that you think you can teach other people.
You should say:
What it is
Who you can teach
How you can teach others
And explain how you feel about teaching others
答案1
A skill I believe I can teach other people is how to create effective social media content, especially for platforms like WeChat and Xiaohongshu.
This skill is particularly suitable for students, fresh graduates, or anyone who wants to build a personal brand or manage an official account, but doesn’t really know where to start.
What I usually teach is not just how to write a post, but how to think from a platform perspective.
For example, I explain how different platforms recommend content, what kind of opening hook works, and how to structure a post so that readers actually stay until the end.
When teaching others, I normally use real examples.
I’ll take an existing post, break it down into the headline, opening, body and call-to-action, and then show how small changes in wording or structure can significantly improve engagement.
Sometimes, I also ask them to rewrite a piece themselves and give feedback, which helps them learn much faster.
As for how I feel about teaching others, I actually find it very rewarding.
Seeing someone gain confidence and realise that content creation is a skill that can be learned — rather than pure talent — gives me a strong sense of achievement.
It also helps me reflect on my own thinking process and improve my skills at the same time.
I’d like to talk about interpreting skills, especially consecutive and basic simultaneous interpreting, which I believe I’m well qualified to teach.
I studied translation and interpreting at postgraduate level, and I’ve received systematic training in areas such as active listening, note-taking, reformulation and information prioritisation. So the people I can teach are mainly language learners, particularly students who already have a solid English foundation but struggle to express ideas accurately and fluently under pressure.
In terms of how I would teach this skill, I wouldn’t start with actual interpreting straight away. Instead, I’d begin with listening and memory training, for example, summarising short speeches or identifying key ideas rather than individual words.
After that, I’d introduce structured note-taking techniques, focusing on logic, symbols and vertical layout.
Only when learners feel confident would I move on to real interpreting practice, such as interpreting short speeches with increasing speed and complexity, followed by self-evaluation and feedback.
What I enjoy most about teaching interpreting is that it’s highly practical and immediately rewarding. You can clearly see progress when learners become more confident, more accurate, and better at handling pressure. Personally, I find it very satisfying to help others realise that interpreting is not about translating word for word, but about understanding meaning and delivering it clearly.
Part 3
- Do you think teachers should be funny when they are teaching?
I think being funny can be a big advantage, but it’s definitely not a requirement.
Humour helps keep students engaged and relaxed, especially in subjects that might otherwise feel boring.
That said, if a teacher focuses too much on being funny and ignores clarity, it can actually distract from learning.
- Why do teachers need to be kind to students?
Kindness creates a safe learning environment.
When students feel respected rather than judged, they are much more willing to ask questions and make mistakes.
This is especially important for younger learners, whose confidence can be easily affected by the teacher’s attitude.
- Which one do you think is more important? Practical skills or academic skills?
I don’t think it’s a matter of choosing one over the other.
Academic skills help people understand theories and develop logical thinking, while practical skills allow them to apply knowledge in real-life situations.
Ideally, education should combine both, so students are not only knowledgeable but also capable.
- Which age group is the best to learn?
In my opinion, learning ability depends more on motivation than age.
Children may absorb information faster, but adults usually learn with clearer goals and stronger self-discipline.
As long as someone is curious and willing to learn, any age can be a good age to start.
