(Long Turn)
- 在陈述中用 “First / Next / Finally” 或 “On one hand / On the other hand” 等连接词来梳理思路
(That’s an interesting question... / Let me think for a moment...)。
或 “To sum up…”
(Discussion)
Part 2
Describe a toy you got in your childhood.
You should say:
What it was
When you got it
How you got it
And explain how you felt about it.
One toy that really stands out from my childhood was a small remote-controlled car that I got when I was about seven years old.
I received it on my birthday, and it was actually a gift from my father, who rarely bought toys for me, so that made it even more special. At that time, remote-controlled toys weren’t very common, at least not among kids in my neighbourhood, so it immediately felt quite exciting and slightly “high-tech”.
I remember spending hours driving it around the living room, crashing it into furniture, and pretending it was racing in professional competitions. What I enjoyed most was the sense of control—it felt amazing to be able to make something move exactly the way I wanted.
Looking back, that toy wasn’t just entertaining; it also sparked my curiosity about how things work mechanically. Even now, I associate it with a strong sense of happiness and freedom, because it represents a time when joy came from very simple things.
Part 3
- Why do some people think advertising aimed at children should be prohibited?
- at face value
- makes them particularly vulnerable to manipulation
- poor eating choices
Many people believe this kind of advertising should be restricted because children lack the cognitive ability to critically evaluate commercial messages. They tend to take advertisements at face value, which makes them particularly vulnerable to manipulation.
They take advertisements at face value → 孩子看到广告怎么说,就怎么信。
As a result, advertising can create unrealistic desires, encourage materialism, and even influence unhealthy habits, such as poor eating choices. From this perspective, banning such advertising is seen as a way to protect children’s psychological and physical well-being.
- Why do you think some parents buy lots of toys for their kids instead of spending more time with them?
- come down to 归根结底是;本质原因是
- What it comes down to is either I get more money or I leave.
- be overwhelmed by …
- compensate for their absence
- equate material provision with good parenting
In many cases, it comes down to time pressure. Modern parents are often overwhelmed by work and other responsibilities, so buying toys becomes a convenient way to compensate for their absence.
come down to phrasal verb
come down to something [no passive] to depend on a single important point
Additionally, some parents equate material provision with good parenting, even though emotional engagement and quality time are often far more valuable to a child’s development.
- What are some of the differences between the toys kids play with nowadays and those they used to play with in the past?
- overused adj.
The most obvious difference is the level of technology involved. Toys today are far more digital and interactive, often incorporating screens, artificial intelligence, or internet connectivity.
In contrast, toys in the past were generally simpler and more imagination-driven, such as board games or handmade items. While modern toys can be more engaging, they may also reduce opportunities for creative thinking if overused.
- Are there any kinds of electronic games or computer games that can have educational benefits for young children?
Yes, when designed appropriately and used in moderation, electronic games can be highly educational. Many games help children develop problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and even basic programming concepts.
However, the key issue is supervision. Without guidance, educational value can quickly be replaced by passive screen consumption.
- Do boys and girls like the same kind of toys?
- construction or action-based toys
- that said 话虽如此;不过
- place emphasis on 更加重视……
There is some overlap, but preferences are often shaped by social expectations rather than innate differences. Traditionally, boys are encouraged to play with construction or action-based toys, while girls are steered towards dolls or role-playing games.
That said, these boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred, as parents and educators place more emphasis on individual interests rather than gender norms.
- What do parents usually buy for their children to make them happy?
Parents commonly buy toys, electronic devices, or experiences such as trips and activities. Younger children are often satisfied with tangible gifts, while older children may value freedom, attention, or shared experiences more.
Ultimately, what truly makes children happy tends to be a sense of being understood and supported, rather than the price of what they receive.
