(Long Turn)
- 在陈述中用 “First / Next / Finally” 或 “On one hand / On the other hand” 等连接词来梳理思路
(That’s an interesting question... / Let me think for a moment...)。
或 “To sum up…”
(Discussion)
Part 2
Describe an object that you think is beautiful.
You should say:
What it is
Where you saw it
What it looks like
And explain why you think it is beautiful
I’d like to talk about a traditional Chinese porcelain vase that I once saw in a museum in Jingdezhen, a city well known for its centuries-old ceramic craftsmanship.
- Chinese porcelain vase
porcelain noun /ˈpɔːsəlɪn/ 瓷器
vase noun /vɑːz/ /veɪs/, /veɪz/
The vase was medium-sized and slender, with a perfectly balanced shape that immediately caught my attention. Its surface was covered in a glossy white glaze, decorated with delicate blue patterns depicting mountains, flowing rivers, and misty clouds. What impressed me most was the level of detail — every brushstroke looked effortless, yet incredibly precise, giving the whole piece a sense of quiet elegance.
- slender adj.
- in a glossy white glaze
I think this vase is beautiful not just because of its visual appeal, but because it represents a harmony between art, history, and human skill. It reflects patience, discipline, and an aesthetic philosophy that values restraint rather than excess. To me, that combination of craftsmanship and cultural depth is what makes it truly beautiful.
- connected with beauty and art and the understanding of beautiful things
- made in an artistic way and beautiful to look at 美的;艺术的
aesthetic adj. /iːsˈθetɪk/, /esˈθetɪk/ /esˈθetɪk/ (North American English also esthetic)
Part 3
- Do you think there are more beautiful things now than in the past? Why?
I wouldn’t say there are necessarily more beautiful things today, but there is certainly more access to them. In the past, beauty was often limited by materials, technology, and social class, whereas today, design tools and digital platforms allow creativity to be widely shared. That said, some traditional forms of beauty, especially those rooted in craftsmanship, may actually be disappearing.
- What beautiful scenic spots are there in your country?
China has a wide range of scenic spots with very different kinds of beauty. For example, places like Guilin are famous for their natural landscapes, especially limestone mountains and rivers, while cities such as Suzhou are admired for their classical gardens, which reflect balance, symmetry, and philosophical ideas about nature. Each represents a different aesthetic tradition.
/esˈθetɪk//iːsˈθetɪk/
- Where do you think people usually come into contact with beautiful things?
- come into contact with 接触到;遇到
In modern life, people most commonly encounter beauty through digital media, such as social platforms, films, and online exhibitions. However, I believe the most impactful experiences still come from direct contact, like visiting museums, travelling, or even observing well-designed everyday objects, because those experiences engage multiple senses.
- Why do you think people create beautiful things?
- a work of art
I think people create beautiful things as a way to express emotions, values, and identity. Beauty allows individuals and societies to communicate ideas that go beyond practical function. In many cases, it also reflects a desire to leave something meaningful behind, whether that’s a work of art, architecture, or even a simple object with thoughtful design.
