(Long Turn)
  • 在陈述中用 “First / Next / Finally” 或 “On one hand / On the other hand” 等连接词来梳理思路
(That’s an interesting question... / Let me think for a moment...)。
  • 若时间快到,可用一句 “In conclusion…”“To sum up…”
(Discussion)

Part 2

Describe one area of science (medicine, physics and etc.) that sounds interesting to you.
You should say:
What it is
When you knew it
How you knew it
And explain why it sounds interesting to you

I’d like to talk about artificial intelligence, particularly how it is applied in everyday decision-making.
I first became aware of this field during my undergraduate studies, but it didn’t truly capture my interest until a few years ago, when AI tools started to appear in areas like language translation, medical diagnosis, and recommendation systems.
I mainly learned about it through a combination of online lectures, popular science articles, and my own hands-on experience using AI-powered software. For example, as someone with a background in language services, I’ve seen how machine translation systems have evolved from producing awkward, literal output to generating surprisingly natural language.
What makes this area especially fascinating to me is its dual impact. On the one hand, AI dramatically improves efficiency and accuracy, allowing humans to focus on more creative or strategic tasks. On the other hand, it raises profound ethical questions about data privacy, job displacement, and human autonomy.
  1. data privacy
  1. job displacement
  1. human autonomy
Overall, I find artificial intelligence interesting not only because of its technical sophistication, but also because it forces society to rethink what it actually means to be human in an increasingly automated world.
  1. technical sophistication
    1. sophistication noun the quality in a machine or system of being clever and complicated in the way that it works or is presented
      • the increasing power and sophistication of computers
      • Financial markets have grown in sophistication as well as size.

Part 3

  1. Why do some children not like learning science subjects at school?
One major reason is that science is often taught in a highly abstract and exam-oriented way. When students are asked to memorise formulas without understanding their real-world applications, the subject can feel both intimidating and irrelevant. As a result, curiosity is replaced by pressure.
      1. teach in a highly abstract and exam-oriented way
      1. memorise formulas
          • Used to describe something that makes someone feel nervous, anxious, or incapable.
  1. Should children be encouraged to learn science?
Yes, but the emphasis should be on engagement rather than performance. If science is presented as a tool for understanding everyday phenomena rather than merely a test subject, children are far more likely to develop long-term interest and confidence.
      1. engagement
      1. a test subject
      1. develop long-term interest and confidence
  1. Should people be encouraged to learn science after graduation?
Absolutely. In a society increasingly shaped by technology, basic scientific literacy is essential for informed decision-making. Even non-specialists benefit from understanding topics like data security, public health, or climate change.
      1. basic scientific literacy
        1. literacy noun /ˈlɪtərəsi/ [uncountable]
        2. the ability to read and write
        3. (in compounds构成复合词) knowledge or skills in a specific area 特定领域的知识或技能
            • financial/health literacy 金融/健康知识
            see also computer literacy
computer literacy noun /kəmˌpjuːtə ˈlɪtərəsi/ [uncountable] the ability to use computers well
            • Low levels of computer literacy in any organization are a disaster.
      1. informed decision-making
      1. data security
      1. public health
  1. How do you get to know about scientific news?
I mainly rely on reputable science journalism platforms and long-form articles rather than social media. This allows me to understand not only the findings themselves, but also the context and limitations of the research.
      1. reputable science journalism platforms
      1. long-form articles
  1. Should scientists explain the research process to the public?
Definitely. Transparency helps build public trust and prevents misinformation. When people understand how conclusions are reached, they are less likely to misinterpret or oversimplify scientific results.
版本2:I think that, in general, transparency in research and communication can help build public trust and reduce the spread of misinformation. When people have a clearer idea of how scientists reach conclusions, they are less likely to misinterpret or oversimplify scientific results, which may support more informed decisions and engagement with science.
      1. transparency noun
      1. build public trust
      1. prevent misinformation
      1. reach conclusions
      1. misinterpret verb
      1. oversimplify scientific results
