Part 1
Advertising
  1. Do you like advertisements on TV or some other products?
To be honest, I’m not a big fan of adverts, especially when they interrupt a TV drama or show I’m really into — it just ruins the mood completely. That said, I do understand why they exist; after all, media platforms need to make money somehow, and advertising is still their main source of revenue.
      • advert noun /ˈædvɜːt/ (British English, informal) (also advertisement British and North American English) (also ad informal) a notice, picture or film telling people about a product, job or service广告;启事
        • the adverts on television
        • I fast-forwarded through the adverts.
        • When the adverts came on I got up to put the kettle on.
  1. Were there any advertisements that impressed you when you were young?
Yes, there were quite a few memorable ones, especially public service adverts. One that really stuck with me was called “Washing Mum’s Feet”, which was about a boy who learned to care for his mother after seeing her wash his grandmother’s feet. The story was incredibly simple but deeply touchingit genuinely shaped how many children of my generation viewed family love and gratitude.
  1. Will you do work related to advertising?
Not really. I don’t think I’ll go into advertising in the future. I actually worked in marketing during one of my internships, and my mentor used to work in a 4A agency. She told me that a few years ago, when the economy was booming, everyone wanted to get into advertising. But personally, I’m more interested in languages rather than advertising, so I don’t really see myself going down that path.
      • go down that path” 是一个比喻性表达,意思是:
        • Many of my classmates became lawyers, but I didn’t want to go down that path.
        • Once you go down that path, it’s hard to turn back.
  1. What kind of advertisements are shown in public places?
These days you see all sorts of ads in public spaces, but product advertising still dominates. From milk tea brands and fashion labels to job-hunting platforms, they’re everywhere — on billboards, in subway stations, and even on digital screens inside elevators. It’s amazing how advertising has literally occupied every corner of urban life.
