(Long Turn)
- 在陈述中用 “First / Next / Finally” 或 “On one hand / On the other hand” 等连接词来梳理思路
(That’s an interesting question... / Let me think for a moment...)。
或 “To sum up…”
(Discussion)
Part 2
Describe a person who you think wears unusual clothes.
You should say:
Who this person is
What he or she does
Why you think the clothes he or she wears are unusual
And explain how you feel about this person
I’d like to talk about a person I know called Leo, who is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. I first met him through a mutual friend a few years ago and what immediately stood out was the way he dressed.
Expressions
- meet sb through a mutual friend
His clothes are unusual mainly because they don’t follow mainstream fashion trends at all. He often wears oversized jackets, brightly coloured trousers, and vintage accessories that look like they come from completely different decades. For example, he might pair a 1970s-style blazer with modern sneakers and hand-painted tote bags. To most people, these combinations might seem mismatched or even strange, but for him, they form a very coherent personal style.
- For example 举例
Expressions
- pair a 1970s-style blazer with modern sneakers
What I find particularly interesting is that his clothing choices seem to reflect his creative profession and personality. He treats clothes as a form of self-expression rather than something purely functional. As a result, he always looks confident and comfortable regardless of how unconventional his outfit might appear.
Personally, I really admire him. His style reminds me that fashion doesn’t have to be about fitting in; instead, it can be a way of expressing individuality and creativity. Being around him has actually encouraged me to be more open-minded about how I dress myself.
Part 3
- Do you think online shopping is a good trend?
- the lack of physical experience
- the risk of impulsive buying
- use it sensibly rather than excessively
- use it in moderation
- not overuse it 不要过度使用
- shop online with self-control
Overall, I think online shopping is a positive trend, mainly because of its convenience. People can compare prices, read reviews, and make purchases at any time without being limited by location. That said, it does have drawbacks, such as the lack of physical experience and the risk of impulsive buying. So while it is beneficial, I think it works best when people use it sensibly rather than excessively.
- Are there any differences on men and women’s preferences about clothes?
Yes, there are some general differences, although they are becoming less obvious nowadays. Traditionally, women tend to prioritise style, variety, and self-expression, while men often focus more on comfort and practicality. However, with changing social attitudes and the influence of fashion media, these boundaries are increasingly blurred, and personal taste now plays a much bigger role than gender.
- Do you think clothes will influence one’s mood?
Absolutely. What people wear can have a strong psychological impact. For instance, wearing comfortable or well-fitted clothes often makes people feel more confident and relaxed whereas uncomfortable or inappropriate clothing can lead to irritation or self-consciousness. In this sense, clothing doesn’t just reflect mood—it can actively shape it.
- What are the differences between clothes worn by old people and those by young people?
Generally speaking, older people tend to prefer clothes that are practical, comfortable, and suitable for daily activities, while younger people are more willing to experiment with trends, colours, and styles. This difference is largely influenced by lifestyle and priorities. Younger people often see clothing as a form of identity, whereas older generations usually value functionality over appearance.
I wouldn’t say the difference is simply about age. It’s more related to life stage and personal priorities. Younger people often enjoy experimenting with different styles because clothing helps them express who they are or fit into certain social settings. Older people, meanwhile, usually know what works for them, so their choices tend to be more stable and intentional rather than trend-driven.
At the same time, this distinction isn’t very clear-cut anymore. You see plenty of older people with a strong sense of style, and many young people who mainly care about comfort. So it really depends on the individual, not just their age.
- What kind of clothes do people wear in the workplace?
- dressed in formal evening attire
- casual or expressive clothing
- balance professionalism with comfort
This largely depends on the nature of the job. In formal environments such as offices or financial institutions, people usually wear professional attire like suits or smart dresses. In contrast, more creative industries often allow casual or expressive clothing. Overall, workplace clothing tends to balance professionalism with comfort, reflecting both company culture and job requirements.
