Part 1
Birthday
- What do you usually do on your birthday?
- low-key adj. /ˌləʊ ˈkiː/ not intended to attract a lot of attention
- Their wedding was a very low-key affair.
I normally keep my birthday pretty low-key. I’ll either have a nice dinner with a couple of close friends or just take the day off to treat myself, like going to a spa or doing something relaxing. For me, it’s more about having a quiet moment to unwind rather than throwing a big celebration.
- What did you do on your birthday when you were young?
When I was little, my birthdays were a lot more festive. My family would always buy me a cake and prepare a big meal, and we’d invite relatives over to celebrate together. It felt really warm and lively, and those gatherings are some of my favourite childhood memories.
- Do you think it is important for you to celebrate your birthday?
- grand adj.
- (dialect or informal) very good or great fun; excellent
- extravagant adj.
- grounded adj. having a sensible and realistic attitude to life(对生活)持有理智和现实态度的
- Away from Hollywood, he relies on his family and friends to keep him grounded.
Yes, I think it matters, but not in a grand or extravagant way. It’s more like a personal checkpoint that gives me a chance to look back on the past year and think about what I want to improve. Even a small celebration helps me feel grounded and reminds me to appreciate how far I’ve come.
