Part 1
Staying up late
  1. Do you often stay up late?
    1. 我的答案
      是的,我经常熬夜。我是个夜猫子,而且我有点形成生活惯性了,习惯性熬夜。我知道早睡早起更是好习惯,但是我真的很享受夜晚的时光。
Yes, I do stay up late quite often. I’m naturally a night owl, and over the years it has almost become a habit for me to wind down much later than I should. I know going to bed early is healthier, but I genuinely enjoy the quiet and the sense of calm that the night brings.
      • wind down /ˈwaɪnd daʊn/ phrasal verb (of a person人) to rest or relax after a period of activity or excitement 喘口气;喘息一下
        • synonym unwind
      • night owl /ˈnaɪt aʊl/ noun (informal) a person who enjoys staying up late at night 喜欢熬夜的人;夜猫子
  1. What do you do when you stay up late?
    1. 我的答案
      刷视频,看书。看我喜欢的视频,有些视频内容我甚至会整理下来。
I usually watch videos or read something I’m interested in. Sometimes I come across content that really inspires me, and I even take notes or save ideas for later. For me, staying up late often turns into a kind of personal downtime where I can focus on things I genuinely enjoy.
      • downtime noun /ˈdaʊntaɪm/ [uncountable]
          1. the time during which a machine, especially a computer, is not working(尤指计算机的)停机时间,停止运行时间
            1. compare uptime
          1. (especially North American English) the time when sb stops working and is able to relax 停工;休息
              • Everyone needs a little downtime. 大家都需要休息一下。
  1. How do you feel when you have stayed up late the night before?
    1. 解释问题
      如果你前一天晚上熬夜了,你第二天感觉怎么样?”
      逐词解释一下:
      • How do you feel
        • = 你感觉如何 / 你状态怎么样
      • when you have stayed up late
        • = 当你熬过夜、睡得很晚的时候
          (这里用 have stayed 强调“刚刚发生过的经历”)
      • the night before
        • = 前一天晚上
      我的答案
Honestly, I feel pretty exhausted the next day. I tend to have trouble concentrating, and even simple tasks take more effort than usual. But strangely enough, even knowing this, I still sometimes stay up late because it feels like the only time I truly have to myself
  1. Did you stay up late when you were a kid?
    1. 我的答案
      其实小时候也会熬夜,小学还不会,而且印象也不深了,但从高中开始写作业写到12点。初中有一次熬夜偷偷看韩剧。
Yes, I did, though not as often as now. In primary school I rarely stayed up, but from middle school onwards I sometimes stayed up to finish homework, and by high school it wasn’t unusual for me to work until midnight. I even remember sneaking in an all-nighter once in middle school just to watch Korean dramas.
      • stay up phrasal verb to go to bed later than usual 深夜不睡;熬夜
      • K-drama [C] 韩剧
      • all-nighter noun /ˌɔːl ˈnaɪtə(r)/ (informal) a time when you stay up all night studying, working or at a party 通宵学习;开通宵夜车
      • “sneak in” 在这里的意思是:
        • 👉 “偷偷地做某事、悄悄地安排/挤出时间去做某件不该做或不让别人知道的事”
所以 “sneaking in an all-nighter” 的意思就是:
          “偷偷熬了整晚”“悄悄通宵了一次”
