Part 1
Working with old people
  1. Have you ever worked with old people?
Yes, I volunteered at a local care home during my gap year. Spent weekends helping with activities like bingo and tea time. Also worked with some senior colleagues at my part-time job in retail - they were in their sixties but still full of energy. Really enjoyed both experiences actually.
      • bingo
      • tea time
No, I haven’t really worked with elderly people before. But I do enjoy chatting with older people because they always have interesting life stories and perspectives to share. I guess if I ever get the chance to work with them, I’d find it quite meaningful.
  1. Are you happy to work with people who are older than you?
Absolutely, I quite enjoy it actually. Older colleagues tend to be more patient and less competitive than people my age. They're usually happy to share their knowledge and don't mind silly questions. Plus, they've got brilliant stories about how things used to be done. Makes work more interesting, doesn't it?
I’d say it depends more on their working style than their age. If they’re experienced and approachable, I’d be really happy to work with them. But if they’re quite strict or pushy, I might find it a bit stressful.
      pushy
pushy adjective /ˈpʊʃi/ (comparative pushier, superlative pushiest) (informal, disapproving) trying hard to get what you want, especially in a way that seems rude执意强求的;死缠硬磨的
      • Her parents were never pushy although they encouraged her acting ambitions from an early age.
  1. What are the advantages of working with old people?
Well, the main thing is their experience - they've seen it all before, haven't they? They're usually calmer in stressful situations and know shortcuts for everything. Also, they're often more reliable and punctual than younger workers. And honestly, they give the best career advice because they've made all the mistakes already.
      • shortcut noun
I think the biggest advantage is that they’ve got a lot of experience. When I’m not sure about something, I can always learn from how they handle it. They're usually calmer in stressful situations and know shortcuts for everything. And honestly, they give the best career advice because they've made all the mistakes already.
